Parks: Arlington National Cemetery is a military cemetery that was established during the American Civil War on the grounds of Arlington House, formerly the estate of the family of Confederate general Robert E. Lee's wife Mary Anna (Custis) Lee, a great grand-daughter of Martha Washington. Shirlington Dog Park was named best dog park of 2009 by the Washington Express. Virginia Highlands Park features three unlighted courts with frost free hydrant, diamond fields for baseball and softball, tennis, basketball, and volleyball courts, and fields for multiple other uses. Grace Murray Hopper Park is named after U.S. Navy's Rear Admiral Grace Murray Hopper who lived at the River House for approximately 20 years and was a pioneer noted for her contributions to the development of computer systems.

 

Airports: Reagan National Airport is conveniently located in Arlington, Baltimore Washington International is located approximately 40 miles from Arlington and Dulles International Airport is only about 25 minutes away as well.

 

Child Care: There are several wonderful locations for child care facilities in Arlington. A few of our favorites include: Trinity Episcopal School of Early Learning and Busy Bee Childcare & Education Center.

 

Elementary Schools: Oakridge Elementary School is a vibrant and thriving elementary school serving the Arlington Ridge, Aurora Hills, Crystal City and Pentagon neighborhoods. St. Agnes School educates the whole child by emphasizing academic achievement, faith formation, and charity toward others.

 

Middle Schools: Gunston Middle School, home of the Hornets, serves grades 6-8 in the Arlington County Public Schools district. Francis Scott Key Elementary School, is named after the author of our national anthem, “The Star Spangled Banner.” St. Agnes School also serves as a middle school in the area.

 

High Schools: Wakefield High School focuses on “Rigor, Relationships, Resilience, Responsibility, & Results”. Washington Lee High School was voted in the top 100 high schools and top 25 Inter-Baccalaureate schools in the US. Bishop Denis J. O'Connell High School is another great school in the Arlington area.

 

Colleges/Universities: Marymount University is a comprehensive, coeducational Catholic university established in Arlington in 1950 by the Religious of the Sacred Heart of Mary. George Mason University is a public university based in unincorporated Fairfax County. Other schools of higher learning in the Arlington area include: George Washington University, Georgetown University, American University, Howard University, and The Catholic University of America.

 

Restaurants: Jaleo is the first critically-acclaimed tapas restaurant in the country, bringing alive the spirit and flavors of Spain with a menu by renowned chef, José Andrés. Ruth's Chris Steakhouse serves the best prime steak sizzling hot. Other delicious restaurants in Arlington include: McCormick and Schmick's Seafood Restaurant, Lebanese Taverna, Noodles and Company, Sine Irish Pub, Thaiphoon of VA, Maggie Moo's Icecream, Asia Bistro, Champps Americana, and Saigon Saigon.

 

Sports Venues: Catch a ball game at nearby Nationals Park (approximately 7 miles away), Verizon Center, (also approximately 7 miles away) or the Patriot Center (approximately 15 miles away).

Museums: Arlington Arts Center, or the AAC, is a private, nonprofit contemporary visual arts center dedicated to presenting and supporting new work by regional artists in the mid-Atlantic States. Through exhibitions, educational programs, and subsidized studio spaces, the AAC serves as a bridge between artists and the public. The Black Heritage Museum was founded to celebrate the African American journey to freedom in Arlington County.

 

Entertainment: Catch a movie and grab a brew at the Arlington Cinema 'N' Drafthouse. Or enjoy a movie with the whole family at Regal Cinemas Ballston Common Stadium 12 or Regal Cinemas Potomac Yards. Synetic Theater is a non-profit physical theater company located in the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area. Also enjoy the Rosslyn Outdoor Theatre in nearby Gateway Park.
