Out and About in Boston.
Parks: Lake Qwannapowitt in Wakefield is located just off Route 128. The lake offers several recreational opportunities, including a four mile walk around the scenic park. There is also a pretty town green, open park land and a playground for additional scenic and recreational opportunities. Harold Parker State Forest is located in Andover, North Andover, North Reading and Middleton, and comprises just over 3,000 acres of Central Hardwood-Hemlock-White Pine type of forest. The forest lies twenty miles north of Boston and offers hiking, mountain biking, fishing, hunting, horseback riding, camping and picnicking. It also has over 35 miles of logging roads and trails and offers quiet seclusion to off-road hikers and bikers. Non-motorized boating is allowed on any of the 11 ponds; however, no horse, boat or bike rentals are available at this facility. Other great parks in the Boston area include the South Boston Maritime Park, Children's Wharf Park and Boston Harbor Islands Park.
Airports/Transportation: Manchester Boston Regional Airport is located less than 50 miles north of Boston and is the convenient alternative to Logan International Airport and a better way to the Boston-North region. Boston Logan International Airport is New England’s largest transportation center and is located in East Boston. You can also commute around town easily from any of these stations; the Anderson Train Station, located in Woburn Ma, the Silver Line, or the South Station.
Elementary Schools: St. John School is located in North Square on the Freedom Trail in Boston's historic North End. Since 1873, it has touched the lives of generations of students. The Clapp-Goodyear Elementary School is located on Hudson Street in Woburn, along the banks of Horn Pond. The Goodyear Elementary School has been folded into Clapp.
Middle Schools: Patrick F Gavin Middle School works to create "Education for the 21st Century by using all available technologies and integrating them into the entire educational process. Kennedy Middle School, located in Waltham, MA, also focuses on preparing students for the 21st century with the motto: “Technology capable and information literate students make the grade.”
High Schools: Boston College High School is a Jesuit Catholic college-preparatory school for young men founded in 1863. Woburn High School offers an academic program which reflects the opportunities and challenges, which students are faced with in our rapidly changing society.
Colleges/Universities: Boston College is one of the oldest Jesuit, Catholic universities in the United States. U.S. News and World Report ranks Boston College 31st among national universities. Boston University is a leading private research institution with two primary campuses in the heart of Boston and programs all around the world. Northeastern University is a private research university in Boston and a leader in integrating classroom learning with real-world experience. Harvard University, which will celebrate its 375th anniversary in 2011, is the oldest institution of higher learning in the United States
Restaurants: The Border Cafe offers authentic Tex-Mex & Cajun cooking, the Venetian Moon is a fine-dining Italian Restaurant located in Reading with an extensive vodka list, Joe's American Bar and Grill is a neighborhood staple for traditional American cuisine, offering a comfortable and fun atmosphere for their guests, Sea Dog Pub located in Woburn, serves classic American pub fare & their award winning Sea Dog Microbrew Beer. With so many dining options in Boston, it’s impossible to only name a few. Also check out Jerry Remy's Sports Bar, DelFrisco's Steak House, Temazcal Mexican Cantina & Tequila Bar, and Legal Seafoods Harborside. In the mood for coffee and doughnuts? Starbucks Coffee and Dunkin Dounuts are nearby too.
Sports Venues: Fenway Park opened on April 20, 1912 and is home to the Boston Red Sox, located in the heart of Boston. TD Banknorth Garden is home to the NBA Celtics, NHL Bruins, and many other sports and entertainment events. Gillette Stadium is home to the New England Patriots and the New England Revolution of Major League Soccer.
Shopping: When you live in the Boston area, you are never far from world-class shopping and dining at several area malls and shopping centers. With so many shopping malls in Boston, we decided to only list a few of our favorites: The Burlington Mall, The Northshore Mall, The Wayside Commons, The Shops at the Prudential Center, and Boston Marriott Copley Place.
Museums: The Boston Children's Museum exists to help children understand and enjoy the world in which they live. It is a private, non-profit, educational institution that is recognized internationally as a research and development center and pacesetter for children's exhibitions, educational programs and curriculum. The Museum Of Science in Boston features a revolving schedule of Imax films, temporary exhibitions and planetarium shows.
Entertainment: The Boston Colonial Theatre, located in Boston's Historic Theatre District, is the oldest continuously operating theatre in New England. The Charles Playhouse is an Off-Broadway Theater located in Boston. Other great venues for live performances in Boston include the Citi Performing Arts Center Wang Theatre and the Wilbur Theatre. You can also catch a flick at the IMAX Theatre at Jordans Furniture or the AMC Loews Theatres - Boston Common 19.
Recreation: The Boston Common Frog Pond offers family fun and ice-skating to all Bostonians. Community Boating offers sailing lessons and classes to sailors of all ages. At the Boston Harbor Islands National Recreation Area, you can walk around a Civil War-era fort, visit historic lighthouses, explore tide pools, hike lush trails, camp under the stars, or relax while fishing, picnicking or swimming—all within reach of downtown Boston. Boston Harbor Cruises - Whale Watching offers Boston’s only three-hour whale watching tour. You can also enjoy some good, old-fashioned family fun at Kings Bowling Billiards & Lounge in Boston.
