Parks: Fairland Regional Park includes more than 150 acres of parkland that has been developed for recreational use along with four lighted softball fields. West Laurel Park is a mixture of bluegrass irrigated turf and non-irrigated turf. The main body of the park features nice views of the front range to the south and west.
Airports/Transportation: Dulles International Airport is approximately 45 miles from Laurel and the Baltimore Washington International Airport also services the Laurel area and is only about 15 miles away. The park and Ride off Rt. 1 is also very convenient for people commuting into DC.
Elementary Schools: Laurel Woods Elementary School serves grades PK-5 in the well-known Howard County Public School System district. Brock Bridge Elementary School aims to close the achievement gap for all learners and to prepare them for a culturally diverse and technologically oriented society. Hammond Elementary School is also a part of the Howard County Public School System district.
Middle Schools: Murray Hill Middle School serves grades 6-8 in the Howard County Public School System district. It is among the few public middle schools in Maryland to receive a distinguished “GreatSchools Rating” of 8 out of 10. Hammond Middle School is also a part of the Howard County Public School System district.
High Schools: High Road Academy specializes in individualized, remedial programs for students primarily with learning disabilities. Phillips School, in Laurel, is a private, nonprofit organization serving over 500 children and their families in the Washington metropolitan area. Augsburg Academy is a Christian Day School in the Evangelical/Lutheran tradition that was founded in 2005. Meade Senior High School is a public secondary school for grades 9 through 12 located at Fort Meade, Maryland and is part of Anne Arundel County Public Schools.
Colleges/Universities: Capitol College is the only independent college in Maryland dedicated to engineering, computer sciences, information technologies, and business. Prince George's Community College is a community college located in the unincorporated community of Largo in Prince George's County, Maryland.
Restaurants: Silver Diner Inc. is an old-fashioned neighborhood diner with several different locations on the East Coast. Enjoy some family fun at Chuck E. Cheese's. Red Hot and Blue Offers Southern-style barbecue ribs, pulled pork, chicken, brisket, and burgers. Some of our other favorite restaurants in the Laurel area include: Don Pablo's Mexican Kitchen, Five Guys Burgers & Fries, Panera Bread, Fridays, Potbelly Sandwich Shop, Chipotle, Starbucks, and the Olive Garden.
Shopping: Laurel Centre Mall is an open air shopping complex located in Laurel on U.S. Route 1 just south of Maryland Route 198. Arundel Mills Mall is the newest outlet shopping mall in the Baltimore/Washington corridor, featuring over 200 specialty retailers. Dutch Country Farmers Market features meats, baked goods, candies, produce, poultry, and much more fresh groceries. Other stores in the region that will make your life more convenient include: Office Depot, Burlington Coat Factory, Giant Food, and CVS.
Entertainment: AMC Theatres - Columbia 14 and United Artists Snowden Square Stadium 14 are perfect places to enjoy a movie night on the town.
Recreation: Laurel Park is an American thoroughbred racetrack located just outside Laurel, which opened in 1911. XP Laser Sport will have you maneuvering through corridors, dodging laser beams, and blasting away at other human targets who are out to get you; XP takes you beyond the limit of human endurance. Laurel Golf Center, AMF Laurel Lanes, Fair Lanes Bowling Center, Sport Fit Laurel Racquet, and Gold's Gym are other great destinations for recreation in Laurel.
